Bilan scientifique
Les processus de patrimonialisation sont actuellement au cœur d’un ensemble de dynamiques de changements politiques, culturelles, environnementaux, etc. Les minéraux précieux sont emblématiques de cette situation et se trouvent à l’interface de ces dynamiques. L’ensemble des liens que nous tissons avec le règne minéral fait l’objet d’analyses bien souvent séparées, entre anthropologie, archéologie, histoire, géographie, géomorphologie et minéralogie. De nombreuses filières lithiques s’organisent autour de l’extraction de minerai pour un usage industriel, faisant oublier que d’autres relations à la terre que l’extractivisme sont possibles. Des marchés mondiaux se sont constitués autour de la collecte de minéraux pour leur vertus esthétiques, muséographiques et patrimoniales, thérapeutiques, astrologiques ou « magiques ». Ces minéraux peuvent donc être considérés comme précieux pour différentes raisons et engager des processus divers de patrimonialisation. Le projet s’attache aux conditions de production des minéraux et des narrations qui les ont transformés en « objets d’art » et les ont déshabillés des conditions matérielles et marchandes de leur découverte.
Réalisations scientifiques :
- Mise en place d’un programme d’enquêtes, essentiellement ethnographiques, et expérimentation des dispositifs pluridisciplinaires pour aborder ce qui se joue à la frontière entre le minéral, l’organique, le culturel, le social, l’environnement et le territoire.
- Une enquête ethnographique au Népal a été réalisée du 9 mars au 15 mai 2022 dans le Ganesh Himal et le Manaslu Himal, dans les districts de Dhading et de Gorkha, riches en cristallisation où sont situés les plus beaux quartz du Népal, dans lesquels les Tamangs sont majoritaires. Il s’agissait de suivre la filière lithique depuis la recherche des minéraux en montagne, le travail d’exploitation des fours, le transport des minéraux du lieu d’exploitation aux villages d’habitation, puis celle du transport des minéraux des villages de montagne à la vallée de Katmandou jusqu’aux opérations de nettoyage des cristaux, de sélection, de classement, d’échange et de vente à des particuliers ou à des institutions et de leur mise en patrimoine ou non.
- Deux autres courtes missions ont été effectuées dans les Alpes françaises en Savoie et Haute Savoie.
Retombées du projet :
- Valorisation scientifique individuelle et collective habituelle sous la forme de publications d’articles dans des revues scientifiques spécialisées et généralistes (anthropologie, géographie, sociologie, histoire).
- Mise en réseau d’un ensemble de chercheurs nationaux et internationaux appartenant à des disciplines différentes, tous intéressés par les minéraux et leur mise en patrimoine (chercheurs EVS et autres, ouverture à de nouvelles disciplines).
- Des opérations de valorisation et vulgarisation tenteront de répondre à une demande sociale des acteurs à laquelle nous sommes directement confrontés en tant que chercheurs.
- Suite envisagée : poursuite des enquêtes dans les Alpes (printemps 2023) ; séminaire et journée d’étude visant à expérimenter et à discuter différentes approches disciplinaires (année 2023) ; publication d’un ouvrage collectif et/ou d’un numéro de revue scientifique (2023-2024) ; exposition (2024).
- Montage d’un projet plus ambitieux sur la question du type ANR ou ERC pour dégager des moyens suffisants au développement de la recherche.
